About Snorkeling Tours Zanzibar

This is an independent guide to snorkeling in Zanzibar, written by a guide who works the north-coast boats. It exists because the difference between a good morning on the reef and a wasted one comes down to details that no booking page tells you. Why this site exists

Twenty boats leave Nungwi for Mnemba every morning and the listings all read the same. What they leave out is which operators pay the $25 conservation fee inside your ticket and which collect it in cash at sea, which ones anchor over dead reef when the good wall is busy, and what the tide is doing on the day you booked.

Those are the questions guests ask on the boat, after they have already paid. This site answers them before.

How the trips here are chosen

Not everything on the booking platforms makes this page. A trip qualifies when it clears a consistent bar:

A rating of 4.4 or better with a review history you can read yourself
Gear and life jackets carried on the boat as standard
Conservation and government fees stated clearly, included or not
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure
A reef that is worth the crossing rather than a stop of convenience

How the numbers are kept honest

Prices, ratings and review counts come from the operators' own listings and carry the month they were checked. Conservation fees, the entry insurance and the Chumbe levy are checked against government and park sources rather than copied from other travel sites, and each one is dated on the page where it appears.

When a figure changes, the page changes. Anything unverified is written as unverified.

How this site makes money

The site is free to read. When you book through a link here, the platform may pay a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not change your price, and it does not set the order of the tours.

We are not a tour operator or a travel agency: the operator handles your booking, your payment and your cancellation on their own site.

I have guided snorkeling boats out of Nungwi and Kendwa since 2013 and still run trips to Mnemba and Tumbatu most weeks. I read the tide tables before every departure, pay the conservation fees at the ranger post myself, and hear the same complaints from guests each season. This site is where I write those answers down.
